Sustainable Urban Redevelopment

Welcome to the inaugural, online edition of Sustainable Urban Redevelopment (SUR), which is dedicated to promoting the triple-bottom-line goals of sustainability in metro areas across the country. There are some different dynamics in urban areas and we will address such issues in this quarterly publication.  
 
In this edition, noted historic preservationist Donovan Rypkema presents arguments for the adaptive reuse of warehouses and other industrial buildings. We’ll take a look at Tax Increment Financing and a successful effort in Chicago to address stormwater problems by incorporating pervious surfaces. You’ll also be introduced to a new organization, Sustainable Land Development International (SLDI), a unique cooperative that will promote cutting-edge perspectives, techniques and technology to enable sustainable development.
